Biodynamic®

What is Biodynamic Agriculture?

Biodynamic® agriculture is an integral, holistic, and regenerative farming approach that
views the farm as a living, interconnected organism. It focuses not only on crop production
but also on soil health, biodiversity, and harmony among natural elements. Developed in
1924 by Rudolf Steiner, biodynamics combines ecological and spiritual principles with
traditional farming practices to produce high-quality food and promote environmental
sustainability.
Unlike conventional agriculture, biodynamics® does not use synthetic chemicals or
pesticides. Instead, it employs special preparations, natural compounds, and techniques that
align with natural and cosmic cycles to foster ecological balance.

Biodynamic Preparations

Biodynamic® preparations are the heart of this form of agriculture. They act as biological
catalysts, stimulating natural processes in the soil and plants. Some of the most commonly
used preparations include:
● Preparation 500: Cow manure fermented inside a cow horn buried during the winter.
It is applied to the soil to improve its structure, stimulate microbiological activity, and
promote humus formation.
● Preparation 501: Ground quartz fermented in a cow horn buried during the spring
and summer. It is sprayed on plant leaves to enhance photosynthesis and strengthen
the plant’s relationship with sunlight.
● Compost Preparations: Made from medicinal herbs such as yarrow, chamomile,
nettle, and valerian. These are incorporated into compost to accelerate
decomposition and enrich it with essential nutrients.
These preparations not only regenerate the soil but also increase plant resistance to
diseases and improve the quality of food.

Benefits of Biodynamic Agriculture

Biodynamic agriculture benefits not only farmers but also the environment and consumers.
Its main advantages include:

● Soil Regeneration: Enhances soil fertility, structure, and microbiology, improving its
ability to retain water and nutrients.

● Biodiversity: Creates rich and balanced ecosystems, encouraging the coexistence
of diverse species.

● Nutrient-Rich Food Production: Biodynamic crops are higher in nutrients, have
better flavor, and maintain freshness for longer.

● Sustainability: Reduces reliance on chemical inputs and minimizes the carbon
footprint, contributing to climate change mitigation.

● Resilience: Biodynamic farms are more resistant to adverse weather conditions and
pests, thanks to the natural balance they promote.
